T-shirts

This is for all of our fans and friends out there. We have created a new logo for the group and are having some t-shirts made as a fundraiser for one of our former members who is in need of some medical care. The shirts are available in a large variety of colors and are $10 each for those in state, a little more for shipping if you are out of state. If you are interested please leave a comment and an email address (I will not publish it) and I will hook you up. This is a fun way to help out a fellow dancer, and may be a one time only opportunity! I will post the logo soon.

Change in schedule

It has been decided that due to the low attendance, and high gas prices we will be going to a twice a month rehersal schedule. Starting next Tuesday we will meet every other week from 6:00-8:00. We will still meet at the community center until it closes at the end of the year, and then we will move to our new location at 1000 s. 1300 e. approximately, the church across from East High. So we will see you next week with your dancing shoes on. If you have any questions contact Adrian, and remember new people are always welcome.

back to business

We will be resuming rehersal on Tuesday after a much needed break. No programs on the radar right now, but that can change at a moments notice. Rumor has it we may be seeing a few new faces. Hope you all can make it.

Oktoberfest

For the first time in several years we were able to dance at Snowbird's Oktoberfest. We had a great time and the program went well despite the less than ideal conditions. Dancing on a hill is harder than it looks! Then there was the cd player that would quit after 10 seconds, and the beer line that ran adjacent to our "stage" which both provided a captive audience and a steady stream of people walking through our dances. The "dressing room" was better than in years past though. I hope we do it again soon, like maybe next week (hint, hint). If you weren't able to join us this week hopefully you will have another chance, because it was great! We will let you know if we secure another date.

Oktoberfest

We have been invited to join the festivities at Snowbird's Oktoberfest this year. Currently the only set date is this Saturday the 6th at 1:00, 1:30, and 2:00. It has been a long time since we have been as a group. Should be lots of fun.

Peace Gardens

Thanks to all who performed today. It was a small group, but we did a good job. The weather was cooler than expected, which is always a plus. We appreciate your efforts! We will be on break for the next 4 weeks, unless something comes up. As always if there are any questions contact Adrian. See you soon! (and bring some friends).

Peace Gardens

Our program at the International Peace Gardens is coming up on the 16th. All those planning to perform in this program need to be at rehersal Tuesday so that we can set the program. If you cannot be there please contact Adrian and let him know. We will be doing Russian dances and will be the first on the program after the parade of nations, and the opening speeches. The program is set to start at 12:00, so we will need to be there and ready to go by then. Also please bring water or gatorade, or something to drink because it is always very, very hot.

South Town Ranch

There will be no rehersal next Tuesday because of our performance on Wednesday. We will meet at 6:30 and we will start with the Russian costume, you will also need to bring your German and Slovak costumes. The address is 310 east 10600 south, it is a senior care center called South Town Ranch, and will be on the south side of the street. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Updates

We have two performances coming up in the next two months:
#1. Wed July 16, 2008 6:30 PM - Senior Citizen Center
#2. Sat Aug 16, 2008 12 Noon - Peace Gardens

Adrian would like everyone to be at rehersal on 7/1 and 7/8 to prepare for the upcoming program. It is 45 minutes so we need to build stamina in preperation for it. If you cannot be at rehersal or at the programs please call or email Adrian so he can plan accordingly.

For the Peace Garden program we are first on the program so we can be in and out quickly. Please plan for the conditions...it is always very hot and the stage is cement and in the sun.

Thanks!

Much thanks to all of you who danced on Saturday. It went well and we had a good time. We appreciate you being there. See you at practice on Tuesday, we will begin working on the July program so that we can survive 30 minutes of dancing on carpet. Be thinking of things that will work well with only 3 men.

upcoming events

Our next performance is Saturday June 14th, at the Central City Community Center, where we rehearse. We need to be there no later than 12:45, we are on at 1:00. This program will be approximately 20 minutes. See Adrian for costume assignments. We can meet in the dance room as early as 12:30, you may want to come in costume as they are expecting a large crowd and you know how limited space is.

The next scheduled performance is Wednesday July 16th, at 7:00pm, at South Town Ranch (a senior citizen care center), the address is approx. 310 east 106000 south. More details to follow.

Calling All Dancers!!

Have you ever wanted to dance? Do you dance now? Are you looking for a new cultural experience? If the answer is yes, or even maybe, we could be the group you are looking for.

No experience required just a desire to learn, and have fun. We are looking for new dancers age 18+, some exceptions may be made depending on circumstance. We learn and perform dances from countries such as Russia, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, Germany, and Hungary. Most of our performances are in or near the Salt Lake valley, however we have attended festivals as far away as Escalante Utah, Rock Springs Wyoming, and Red Lodge Montana. Costumes are provided.

Rehersals are on Tuesday nights from 6:30- 8:00, at the Central City Community Center, 600 South 300 East, Salt Lake City. We meet in the dance room near the front entrance. Come meet us and see what we do, and try out our unique way of sharing world cultures with the people of Salt Lake. You can also contact Adrian at adrianruiz@msn.com.
